About the artist
Chela Edmunds is a ceramic artist and educator. She spends her days creating ceramics under the label Takeawei and teaching ceramics workshops from her picturesque studio on the Surf Coast of Victoria, Australia. Chela is co-founder of Guild of Objects, a makers store in North Melbourne that promotes Australian design through retail, exhibitions and workshops.
Chela enjoys bringing ceramics to a wider community and has facilitated workshops in Australia and Internationally including the NGV, Guild of Objects, Craft, Melbourne University, Australia and Choplet in New York. Chela's ceramic work has been widely published in editorial and she has been interviewed for online and magazine publications including Gallery Magazine, The Design Files, Sight Unseen, Australian Ceramics Journal and Rented Space. Group exhibitions and collaborations include Dress Up - Namaste 2015 - Craft, 1-OK Club - NGV, The Victorian Craft Awards - Finalist 2016 and Out of the Studio - Surf Coast Arts 2017.

Takeawei creates fun, functional, hand crafted ceramics for the home, cafes and restaurants. Drawing inspiration from nature, beach culture, food, fashion...and the universe. Takeawei mixes organic shapes and textures with bright colours and a sense of humour.
Each piece is designed to be used and is lovingly hand made by Chela at the Takeawei studio in Torquay, Australia.
Takeawei believes in good health and good karma. All tableware is made from high fired stone ware, using food safe glazes and fired to a very hot 1280 degrees celcius. All Takeawei tableware is microwave and dishwasher safe.
