We are inviting artists working across visual arts and creative writing to apply for a 2-5 day solo retreat at the peaceful and inspiring Sun Set BnB, Jan Juc. This retreat offers a rare opportunity for artists to escape their usual environment and immerse themselves in a tranquil space designed for relaxation, creative rejuvenation, and inspiration. Sun Set is a guest house located centrally in Jan Juc, close to shops, the coastal trails and Jan Juc beach. Be inspired by the rugged clifftops and the crystal clear ocean. The retreat is ideal for artists seeking time to recharge, explore new ideas, and gain fresh perspectives—without the pressure of creating physical outcomes.
There will be two placements available this round.
Retreat Highlights:
- 2-5 days of accommodation at Sun Set BnB taken Monday-Friday May-July 2025
- A peaceful and inspiring environment, ideal for creative rest and reflection
- No specific outcomes required, simply enjoy some space and time for your creative rest or planning your next project.
- Suitable for visual artists and creative writers
- Opportunity for a studio visit to Takeawei, Ashmore Arts, a meal together and introduction to the area.

Open to Australian and international artists ( travel and visa costs to be organised and paid for by applicant)
Takeawei Studio, nestled on Victoria's stunning Surf Coast, invites established ceramic artists to express their interest in a unique residency and retreat experience. A self directed residency with a fully equipped ceramics studio, accomodation and some basic materials supplied. This program offers the perfect balance of creative exploration, professional growth, and coastal relaxation.
About the Residency
Location:
- Studio: Takeawei Studio, Torquay – a well-equipped space for ceramic artists.
- Accommodation: Sunset Jan Juc boutique accommodation – a serene and stylish retreat near the beach. @sunsetjanjuc
Duration:
- Flexible options of 2 or 4 weeks
- Residency dates available between May and September 2025 or May-September 2026
Fees
- Accommodation: reduced rate of $100 per night at Sun Set Jan Juc.

Studio and materials: $150 per week
(Includes access to studio facilities, some materials, and assistance with getting comfortable in the space and firing works.) - Total fees 2 weeks $1700 or 4 weeks $3400 please note the residency is self funded Please note in your application how you will find the residency personal funds, grant or teaching workshops at the studio during your stay.
- A relevant example of your work to be gifted to the residency program at completion of your residency.
Opportunities for Artists
- Exhibit Locally: Showcase your work in the local area at the conclusion of your residency we can help facilitate contact with local venues including low cost or free options.
- Teach Paid Classes: Lead ceramic workshops at Takeawei Studio during your stay. This is a great way to fund your stay partially or fully.
- Mentorship: artists can apply for 5 hours per week of mentorship from Chela Edmunds, founder of Takeawei.
